i wouldnt suggest taking them off, it'd probably look weird, and i doubt its painted under them. if i were you, i would paint them to match the car...

if u want them to look clean when u get them off. take'm to a shop, an get them taken off, they'll fill the holes (they are under there trust me) an then they'll prolly be able to fill it for u if u want. its not gonna be cheap, but it'll look nice if thats wut u want for ur car. wouldn't suggest DIY

There's little clips that hold them in, you have to get on the inside of the fenders and doors to remove the clips. Here's a pic of what it will look like with them off, you'll have the indent with a bunch of little holes in there. The clips go from the side molding, through the hole and secures on the backside.

and yes emerge, it is painted under them.
