Getting ready to buy a 91 GSX, Need HELP!!!
I have found a 91 GSX for $750. The car will not start, but the motor will turn over. Any know what could be the problem. I can see that the car has had a brand new distributor, plugs, and the owner said some type of module is new. Please help me figure out what the problem could be. Should I buy the car?
A few more thing that might help in trouble shooting... When I went to look at the car (which has been sitting for 2 years) there was no battery. We did put one in to try and start it. The plugs wires were not connected to the distributor so we hooked them up. Hopefully we put them in the correct order. We put them the way the wires were formed, so I think they are in the right order. Removed the oil fill cap and the cams are turning. |

First off, the 1G DSM's have a 14B turbo not a 16G. But more importantly, if the car cranks but won't turn over which I think is what you are talking about. It means that the engine cannot build any compression. There are three sources.
1. The piston clearance and the rings are shot so the air charges slips by into the crankcase. 2. The most likely cause, a snapped timing belt. If the belt brakes, it bends valves and the car can't start because the valves are bent in half and don't close. Ask the lady how the car died if it just shut of one day while driving, its probably a timing belt. Also, take the upper timing belt cover off, the one that covers the cam gears, its on by two bolts. See if there is a belt on the gears, no belt then youve found your problem. You will have to pull the head and have the valves replaces. Not a difficult job. 3. Car overheated, head warped and is not sealing on the block. If this happens, the engine has to be torn apart, head has to be milled and the pisonts have to be pulled and new rings but on at a minimum. Unless you know a mechanic personally or know how to rebuild an engine, this scenario isnt one you want to tackle. Ask her how it died, check the timing belt. If it turns out to be the belt, then for sure by the car and throw down the cash to get it fixed all in all you come away with a sweet car with a new head for 1000-1200, a great deal. Hope this helps, -Peace

Checked the car out again today, the fuel line is spraying like a super soaker! The plugs arent getting any fire. The cams are turning. If the belt was broke, they wouldn't move would they?

Personally i have a 91 GST my car did not run when i bought it some jackass thought it would be a good idea to run really high boost on stock motor and exhuast and fuel pump when well he hit fuel cut at 17psi and blew the head i took it off his hands for a small amount of 200 bucks and my eclipse now is in high 13's im new here on the forums but i think if you have money and you plan on making it fast i would go for it if not tell me where its at and ill buy it! :licker: alright well i would go for it! Eclipses are awesome cars and you can make them really fast!

If the cams are turning then you are right the belt isnt broken. You might get lucky and only have to replace the fuel line and some ignition parts
Peace
