Tip for buying a car from a dealer

Always remember that the sales man is your friend and he's there to help.

My best advice is go in there knowing what they paid for the car(s) you are looking at. So when you try to talk them down they can feed you the BS that they are loosing money on the car, sometimes they will try to lure you to a higher price with dealer installed options that the dealer didn't pay for. If they want to talk abot financing off the bat and think they are going to get you in the car that quick, not worth your time. On the same note if they treat you like crap, either find another sales person, that will piss them off, or just find another dealership.

gosh, sounds like you went to the one salesman that gives all a bad name.
I just always rememeber that he's my friend and he's there to help. They're so nice, and they always my interest first, trying to find me a car.

Know only one thing: the car saleman is a thief. A well trained one.

heres a useful tip, dont wear an expensive watch / pair of shoes / etc etc when you walk in to the showroom... whats the point in bargaining the price down when the guy can clearly see you can afford the asking price

Exactly, when I went to buy my 00 civic I went with my brother in law, and instead of driving his really nice gmc yukon, we took his old beater car, just for that reason

Don't let them pressure you into buying and making it sound like its your last chance. They always like to do this. Sit you down in there office get all feeling good and coasy in there chairs.

Its very simple. For 99% of dealers, he wants your money more than you need the car. Besides, there are many dealers. Take the lead, you're the one in the commanding position even if you dont initially feel that. If youre part exchanging, add a couple of thousand to your car's value, at least. If he doesnt give you a decent price, tell him "ive been offered <a larger amount> for it". Put the ball in his court. Dont feel like you need to be talking all the time. Take your time to think and say things that will leave him silent. Ask him direct questions, dammit he's your servant! :hehe:
