Help

I have a '94 Honda Passport. The problem is that when I start it up something squeals heinously loud until I rev the engine really hard. I find that if I pump the brake and gas before I start it, it doesn't do it for as long. It also seems to get worse in colder weather. I thought it might have been just a belt, but I took it to Goodyear and they said all the belts looked fine and they even tightened 'em a little more, but the squealing persisted. I don't know what the problem is. I got a remanufactured starter put in awhile ago and the squealing started not long after that was put in, so I don't know if that had any affect. And just to throw things out there, I have a sound system in my car with a 1200W amp that puts a mean draw on my electrical system I think, but I don't know if that has any affect either. Any ideas on what could be the problem would be appreciated. Thanks!

Im thinking it still might be the belts. Even though they are good, 1200W puts a hell of a load on the alternator (if its on) and if the belts are cold, they might slip on the alternator until they warm up or the engine is going fast.Maybe.

Timing chain is my guess. Pop off the cover and have a look-see Or take it somewhere and have them look.

Well, wouldn't it be a timing belt. I wouldn't think a timing chain could squeal. Anyhow; if it the timing, get that fixed ASAP, because if it snaps, in most cases you can kiss your valves goodbye.

To me it sounds like a loose belt of some sort.

If it was the timing chain/belt, his engine would be dead completley already. Hondas's have an intersecting type valve system so..

Belt, yes my mistake...And why would it be completely dead already? Had an '89 Toyota pickup with a faltering belt. Squealed loud as hell for about 2 weeks until I figured out what it was and made the replacement. After that, good to go!
