push-start with a dead battery

Does anyone know how to push-start a manual transmission car properly? By doing so, does push-starting ruin anything?

yeah seriously, use second. you're gonna wanna use 1st, but dont. Its likely that if you use 1st your car will start, jerk, make some funny loud noise, and shut off. essentially your car laughing at you...i had to learn that one the hard way.

I've always done it in 1st, never been jerky and it always works.

If you start it in first, u gotta press the clutch in right after u feel that the engine is started, or else your car is gonna start hopping like a bunny. IF you do it in second, well yo boys will have to push more to get it up to speed, enuff to start in second. And no, you don't damage anything by push-starting a car.
