The BB T-25 in the msp has little to no turbo lag. That is not the problem.

The problem is that the msp has very poor fuel mapping. The surging that you feel is because the car runs way too rich (A/F drops below 10:1 on most of the dyno charts I have seen). Mazda released an updated PCM flash aimed at correcting the problem, but they did it all wrong. Instead of adjusting the fuel mapping, they just advanced the timing... not good for boosted motors. If you are not flashed, and plan on upping your boost, don't do it. It will cause more problems than it will solve. If you plan on leaving the boost at stock levels, then the flash WILL smooth it out a little, and give you a little bit more mid range power. If you DO plan on upping the boost, then do what I did and get yourself a piggyback or standalone to tune the fuel curve. Modern Performance has a piggyback computer (mpi tuner) that costs $675, and you can tune out the hiccups with it. It also acts like a full standalone for timing.
