The Ungodly Amount of Limited Edition PT Cruisers

Don't want to start any flamming again, but just wondering if anyone has ever seen a PT Cruiser that wasn't a Limited Edition? I just couldn't believe how many i have see out there. I seen more of the Limited Edition models than the regular ones. They should have called them UNlimited Editions. And i was also wondering how many people here think that they are one ugly car. I think they are and wouldn't ever buy one. Now they have a Special Edition and just recently a Turbo Model. jeezzee whats next???

Scott02, you are entitled to your opinion, However I do own and enjoy a 2002 Dream Cruiser. To you they are not attractive. well fine . I disagree. We are all proud of our rides, I feel the Cruiser is one of the most unique cars on the market. Everything else looks the same. I love my Cruiser, I f you dont like themfine, Just remember what opinions are like. Some have them, some are one!

As teh owner of an '02 PT Cruiser Touring Edition, I have to tell you you really have mistaken notion of the nomeclature of them.

There is the basic PT, that Chrysler thought would be the highest seller, as it's the lowest price. Then there was the Touring Edition, which has upgraded suspensions, larger wheels, and some of the mid level options, without the leather interior, and some other differences. it was priced under $20k. Then on top was the Limited Edition, which was basically the PT with all the options, priced kind of higher, and which Crysler felt would sell in the smallest numbers. they didn't really realize the demad for the PTs, and the dealers pretty much only ordered fully optioned Limiteds, because they knew they could sell every one they got. SO instead of selling mostly basic Cruisers, they sold mostly the fully optioned examples.

But the term Limited Edition really means about as much as the LTD nameplate Ford had for years, as a complete model. It merely means the top trim level.

Of course, now we have the GT Cruiser, with the turbo engine and upgraded suspension. I drove a 5 speed GT the other day, and was quite impressed with the power! It's almost as much as my old race car, in a much more practical package.

My personal PT is, as I said, a Touring Edition, with the better suspension, and with the 5 speed. It's quite a bit quicker than the automatic version, and handles good enough to net me a 3rd place in class for the season in SCCA autocrossing. And that's without getting class legal dedicated autocross tires (I ran on the OEM tires, which don't stick as well as real sport tires would)

BTW, I grew up around street rods, and much older cars. To me, the PT is the perfect start for a custom street rod type car, that retains practicality, driveability, and reliability that the old street rods don't have. I think the PT is reasonably attractive in stock form, though mostly it's because I think it has potential to be quite cool:

I still don't understand why so many models of this. I do know for sure that there are more limited editions out there than anything else.

Because, Scott, there is a BASE level, a Touring edition level, and the top trim level, called the Limited edition. Dealers want to make money, and they make more money off of fully loaded examples. So they ordered more Limiteds, knowing that with the high demand for the PT, they could sell every optioned up car they could get. If you look at the lots NOW, there aren't as many of those optioned up ones, and a more normal balance of models exists.

The PT is all about customization, which is why you see special editions, like the Dream Cruiser, or the Woody.

Why do you see more limited then regular?? Let me explain in terms a rice head MIGHT understand. MONEY,PROFIT for the dealer. bigger commission checks for the salesperson. The Cruiser has become so popular the dealers were ordering SE and Limited editions as they make more green-backs,money, dinero, scratch, peso's. dinars, rubels, dollars, etc. It is Limited in name only much like the Ford of years past when they had an LTD, Which stood for limited! unnerstand?
