Turbo or swap i cant decide????

I have a 92 prelude si w/ a h23a non vtec i have been thinking about swapping it out with a h22a siR motor and adding a couple perf. parts to it exhaust, headers, etc... or building up the h23 with new internals pistons rods cam shaft blueprint balance bore and all that fun shit and then puttin a turbo on it. I'd like to put a t4 turbo on there if possible. i dont really know a hell of a lot about turbos though so if you guys could help me out with the pro's and con's and which one would generate more power. Also my engine right now has around 100,000 miles on it but would it be ok if i redid the internals and everything or would that be a problem cause i want it to last a while. I've looked around for some turbo kits but cant really find any good ones except for fmax but its like 3,600 bucks so i'd guess i'd have to go with a custom turbo setup. Anyways just give me the suggestions or any other info that would help! thanx

You mentioned a couple options here. You could rebuild and then turbo the current motor or swap for an h22a and keep it NA. If you did the rebuild, the mileage won't really matter much. BUT if you decide not to do the rebuild, or that you can't afford it, I'd say don't waste your time and money on a turbo setup for a motor that old with that many miles on it. Instead I'd do the swap. But if you can afford it, the rebuilt h23 with a turbo would have the potential to outpower an NA h22a by a long shot. You could definately go with a custom turbo setup as well. Also, I don't know if a T4 would be the best option, but that's definately something that can be decided later on down the road, when you decide what you're going to do and how much power you plan on making. If you haven't noticed by now, most of this depends completely on how much money you plan on dumping into it

Well i wouldn't put a turbo on the current engine without beefing it up and i'd like to spend less than what a swap would cost plus i have a friend who could do all the stuff to the engine which would save me some money and he might be able to put on the turbo to but i dont know about that yet. I'd really like to go with the turbo because i've heard the h23 is a good engine for that since its got lower compression and its more torqueE (cant spell it lol)

Keep the h23a1 and rework the internals, as for turbo kits I'd look into a drag gen 3 which utilizes a T04/T3 turbocharger. But I'd keep the h23, 100,000 is just breaking it in. (highly tunable motor)

I say swap then turbo, that is unless that isn't in your buget range. If not, I would say go turbo and build up your current engine. It would be better to swap then turbo in the long run though, JMO.

actually the strongest motor combo would be a h23 block w/ h22 head and turbo. (very similar to the frankenstien B-series mix) But I assume you mean one motor or the other. In this case h23a1 will prove to be a more cost efficent turbo build. By means of turbo choices Garret turbo is a good choice. I'd probably go with a T3 or buy the drag gen 3 kit if you don't wanna piece one together. OK the size of the turbo will dictate its boost production. This is complicated further by altering the sizes of the turbine, or the compressor. If the turbine housing has small apertures, it will make the turbo work at low engine speeds, but cause a restriction to the exhaust gasses at high RPM. If the compressor assembly is too big in relation to the turbine, it could cause stalling, and if it is too small, it could cause the turbo to over speed and blow. (h23/h22 combo less lag with a smaller turbo is the way to go.)

Well i know about all the main parts of a turbo but i dont know much about all the fuel shit and all the little parts that make a difference. And like what companies make the good products for a turbo and what all i would need to make a custom setup. So if you could give me a little info on the little shit and what all goes into the turbo that would help a lot. If you know any sites to help me out post those too.
THANX

Wow! What a salesman! It's the old question again: swap or turbo? I'm sure that if you hit the "Search" link, you can find so many posts with this very same subject title (if the links come up!). Enjoy!
