Got any "How To's" On VTEC Controllers??

I need a cheap way to make a VTEC Controller or if there is a cheap one for me to buy for my D16Z6 swap into my 90 sedan. Got any links on how to do this or people that have made VTEC Controllers please help. Engine is in & that's about all that's left to do! Thinking of using a 88-91 Si ECU or the PG7 88-89 teg. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I found a shop that has this MSD rpm switch PN-8950. But they don't have this PN-8671 which will give you a range of 4600-6800rpm to activate the VTEC. The PN-8671, is I guess the dial where you can controll when the VTEC kicks in??

I have a summit rpm switch I could sell you if you like, you can control activation from as low as like 1000 rpm or something, check out their website if you wanna see what I have.

just get the MSD rpm activated switch and the 4,000-4900 kit (they come in odds and evens, i got the odd). Stock VTEC activation on a d16z6 is 4800 and you really dont want to change that a whole lot. I have mine set with a 4500rpm pill and it works great.

the cheapest way is to just have a toggle for vtec hehe..next would be the rpm activated switch...

both these pages have some good info..not only for the vtec controller, but for the swap in general. remember, you'll need a relay in addition to the switch...

I know the sumit racing RPM switch is cheaper and I can get it faster but I think I want to go w/ the MSD one. So after I buy the switch I still need to hook it up to a relay?

pulled from that first page...

Quote:
PREPARING THE VTEC CONROLLER:

There's lots of ways to activate the vtec. You could use a tachometer with shift light from Autometer w/ relay($125) Msd rpm switch ( $55) with Rpm module or module selector w/ relay($59) , Field SFC vtec controller ($250) or just plain ol' toggle switch ($2) but might fry up the vtec solenoid.
You don't nead to hook up the oil pressure switch for the vtec by the vtec solenoid if you're using the 4g ecu.
Here's the wiring diagram for MSD rpm switch part # PN8950 and an MSD module selector part # PN8670 with 30 amp 4 wire automotive relay:
Red wire-------------------------- 12 V source
Black wire------------------------ ( - ) Ground
White wire----------------------- ( - ) side of the ignition coil or splice/connect to ecu pin location B15 or B17
Yellow wire---------------------- # 86 on the relay note: for 4 cylinder, you have to cut the two loop wires
30 amp relay
# 85 ------------------------------- 12 V source
# 86 ------------------------------- Yellow wire from the Rpm switch
# 30 ------------------------------- 12 V source
# 87 ------------------------------- to vtec solenoid (green/ yellow wire)
# 87a ------------------------------ not used
