Question 5th Gen. Interior Question

So Im readin through all these past posts seeing the debates of vinal vs. painting your interior, how to paint the plastic, laying down fiber glass, even dying the various cloth pieces in the car.
But what I can't find is how on a 5th gen door panel you get the cloth piece off to eith be reclothed or dyed. Its one big molded piece that (to the best of my memory last I had the panel off) isnt on there quite the same as the 6th gens that seem to be the majority of posts.
My door panel doesnt have one of those nifty storage bin things at the bottom either.

So how does one get that thing off on a 5th gen? And from a black and grey interior, what might look good with Honda's Tahitian Green?

just curious, thanks

Naw, now see I read that thread, and I didnt get it. Which is the only reason why I posted.

Im guessing that much like the sixth gen pics of this process, there are those plastic nubs at the back. Run those off, the carpeted part pops off. Stretch the vinal (good tip kicker about the hair dryer in another post) and how do you get the thing back on??

Do they make those lil plastic nubber thingys?

oh, well the guy on there said he glued his back on instead of using the plastic clips. I'm sure they make the clips though, probably would have to go to honda to get them. I'd say heat up the vinyl and glue it on. Get some clothes pins or something to clamp it while the glue is drying. I dunno, that's the only thing I can think of.

lemme know how the glassing goes. I've been doin A LOT of fiberglass homework and talking to people who have worked with it for various applications. Lemme know...pics too would be cool.

are you just gonna glass over it, or make a form and replace that part with a new fiberglass piece?

Im thinkin I might play around with smaller things on the interior w/ my fiberglassing plans before taking on the exterior pieces I've been talking about...get some practice on a smaller (less expensive) scale.

hey there,
i'm new to these forums and im from australia, and i own a 92 civic hb.
ive just recently done white vinyl interior on the inside door trims to replace the old shitty, dirty carpet, and i was forced to chisel off the plastic nubs and then i actually screwed that panel back onto the other door panel.. although you can see the screws at first, you can cover them up with putty and paint, or even little bits of vinyl to mask it.. i have left it for the moment because i might be doing the whole door, however you can't really notice a few screws in the door anyway

Hey thanks for the reply, I thought about some smaller screws/bolts to put it back on.

And, welcome to AF

I think there is another thread in the interior section somewhere about using a vinyl dye for the doors and dash n such. You may want to look into that if you are planning on any more interior work, or if you want to do more with what you've got. I would gladly post the link, but Im short on time and wasnt able to find it quickly. Just use the search, im sure itll come up.

92 hatches rule!
peace

I'm fiberglassing my door panels right now. They are actually two different pieces that have sleeves on them and honda melts the ends together so you have to drill them out and separate them. If your just dyeing them then you don't really have to take them apart just tape off the part you don't want the dye on and spray it just make sure you clean it really well

O one more thing when you put them back together just use some epoxy and glue the ends of the sleeves together again they won't come apart after that, good luck:bandit:
