Cap and Rotor

How can you tell that you need a new cap and rotor??? other then the usual 60K time change...and also is it easy to replace or do you need special tools to do it....any tips on doing it??? I am asking this cuz I have 55K and ordered cap and rotor from dealer. I am going to do it probably this weekend.

Someone else can probably tell you why and when you need a cap & rotor.

I usually feel that they are bad when the points (silver contact points)inside the cap are worn down from the rotor and the rotor looks blackish/brown and is burnt at the contact point. IMO.

Hey, I have a 1996 G20 w/46,700 miles. What year is yours? And do you have the part #'s for the cap and rotor. That is my next scheduled maintenance that I am hoping to do real soon.

Thanks!

Cap - 22162-0M811
Rotor - 22157-46N12

Got both for $30.85 from dealer...Courtesy Nissan might be cheaper but I hate to wait for the shipment...

btw, Bought this from a Nissan dealer not Infiniti...Infiniti charges about 10% more....

Appreciate it! What year is your G? The reason I ask is because the caps are different within the years. My '96 cap does not have the center coil wire because it is an electronic coil set up instead of a standard coil. I believe they changed over to this on the '94 and newer, but I am not sure.

Thanks again!

Ok, a bit confused. Here are the part #'s I came up with:

91-94 2.0 SE-R/91-93 NX2000
Cap.......22162-53J00
Rotor.....22157-30R00

95-99 2.0 Sentra/SE-R/SE
Cap.......22162-0M810
Rotor.....22157-OM810

00-01 2.0 Sentra
Cap.......22162-7J505
Rotor.....22157-0M512

Are the P10 and/or the P11 G20's completely different than the above Nissans?

I am trying to find the correct part #s for the 1996 P10 G20 so that I can order the parts online through www.nissanparts.cc

It is cheaper than Courtesy and most other online shops and I got excellent service from them when I order my '91 intake cam.

$10.86 Cap + $6.29 Rotor + $6.95 Shipping = $24.10

Thats pretty odd...I don't know about this...I went to a Nissan dealer and told him I had a 1999 Infiniti G20t and he called a friend at an Infiniti dealer and got part numbers....He punched it in into the Nissan dealer computer and it found it as a 1995-1999 200SX SE-R....I replaced this last saturday and everything looked identical and fit right on....my idle is alot smoother and engine overall runs better and smoother...My rotor contact ends were burned up looking brown and crusty...I only have alittle under 55k on my car....

Did my part numbers come up at all on the Infiniti/Nissan dealers????

I know. That's why I am completely confused now.

No. Nothing on Courtesy's site has those part #'s. When I search by those part #'s on nissanparts.cc, they do not specify car only part name, so it doesn't help me either.

I might see if the Infiniti dealer near me would be kind enough to give me the part #'s. I'll just tell them I want to have the #'s on hand when I get ready to order or some bullshit like that.

You shouldn't worry about the dealer not giving you the part number...Its all part of the service...if they are dicks I wouldn't go back..and they know this...They know I just can get the parts somewhere else...I went to my nearest Infiniti dealer and asked to look at at the FSM and they were more than happy to let me look. They even xerox some pages for me...
