Head unit question

I recently had a new din-and-a-half size Pioneer installed on my 86 Cutlass- I don't remember the model number but I don't think it's important for my question.

Anyhow, it has a feature that reverses the subwoofer- I think it's reversing the polarity of the electricity flowing through it. What is the purpose for this? I notice little or no difference when it's set on "Normal" or "Rev".

Amp- 450 Concept
Sub- 12" Kicker Comp Vr (a lil underpowered by the 450 I know but it produces just the right balance of sound I want)

Thanks for the help!

Matt

a polarity switch does the same thing as wiring the speaker backwards ...... "+" amp out to "-" speaker terminal and vice versa. It MIGHT make you subs and midbass sound a little better - or it might make no (audible) difference at all. The only way to know for sure is to try it out.

Thanks- I don't think for most of what I play I notice a difference worth noting. So long as this can't cause any problems (being DC current flowing through the speaker, I think, it shouldn't matter the way AC would- then again I'm no electrical genius). I appreciate your help!
