Will 89 teg motor work in a 4th gen sedan??
I've been seeing allot og 89 tegs in the bone yard and was wondering (if possible) swapping one of these motors into my 90 sedan? What is needed for this swap?? Is it worth the trouble? Should I just go for the ZC?? The only reason I ask is that a full engine from the junk yard is like $150 as opposed to $500 for a ZC. any imput on this would be great!

nope. it does not bolt in. in a 3rd gen civic it will bolt in but not in our fourth gens. The mounts would have to be moved to make it fit.

its direct bolt in on a 3rd gen? Shit, I should go pick up this 86 SI hatch someone is giving away, and drop the motor out of my friends 87LS which he totaled into it.

You gotta get the mpfi and wire up the vtec though if you swap one of these bad boys in.

Will both these both bolt in? I know I will have to wire the harness for the VTEC. Other than that, what else needs to be changed?? Axles, ECU, Tranny??

I found a D16Z6 pretty cheap. Got any info on the swap. Gotta make up my mind this week. The engine w/ no axles for $200. Let me know please?!

As long as you use a D-Series motor, you can use your existing tranny. Anything newer then a 4th gen has hydraulic clutch...so stick with a 4th gen tranny.
Check out this old but reliable link.... http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/4gtech.html Keep in mind...the 86-89 Integras were based on the 3rd gen Civic (which is why the Integra motors bolt into the 3rd gens) The 90-93 Integras were based on the 4th gen Civic...however, 90-93 Integras had B-series motors, so you need a mount kit to put them in a 4th gen cuz all 4th gens in the US came with D-series motors...which is also why the ZC bolts in because it is a D-series motor. ![]() Check out the link...if interested, there are also other Civic gen swap info at the hybrid site...just take off the '/tech/4gtech.html' part

I'm sastanley. the hybrid website is the most reliable source of information on swaps for the 4thgen. I have, however, talked to a couple of guys who got the 2g teg motors to work, but I don't know why you would go to the trouble. Seriously. You could get that kind of power with a few well-placed mods to your d15. Stick with the vtec sohc motors or the ZC.
