paint

wats up everyone. i am planning to paint my car in the NEAR future but the thing is, i'm only 16 w/ a part-time job and it's tough. i've been saying i'd paint for about 6 months now and i haven't been saving much. well the deal is, do you think body shops would use paint that i provide? because my friends dad works at toyota and got hookups on paint. also, how long can i keep paint in storage for? i can buy the paint pretty soon, but i can't afford actually getting it painted yet so is it ok for the paint to be in storage for a few months? thanks in advance........

Don't you know, it's 10 hp for every sticker, 50 hp extra for every additional inch of rear spoiler behond stock height.

If you can get the hook up from your friend's dad on paint...could you rent a spray gun from somewhere? I've heard rumors about places renting autopaint guns (lower pressure, finer mist). Then if you could rent the gun, and your friends dad is a paint guy, perhaps you could get him to go one more and help you paint it.

lay down alot of drop cloths and open a window! but who knows, you might be able to pull it off, and it would be cheaper. Me thinks that a body shop, at least the more reputable ones, would not want to use the paint you buy from outside, liability reasons and such.

either way, good luck

Good Advice dipshit, honestly that the stupidest thing ive seen posted, paint your own car, man do you have any idea what it takes to paint a car? Obviously you dont. tenzoracerevovii save up and get a shop to do it for you.

Most shops will use your paint but if they make any mistakes, they will blame it on the paint that you provided. You can keep paint in storage for possibly as long as you need. The paint that I used on my car was probably 10+ years old and is just as good as the day I bought it. Painting your own car can be very difficult so I wouldn't recommend it seeing as how I couldn't get the hang of it until I messed up several times lol. So go ahead and get the paint and then ask the shops if they'll use your paint. Some shops are really picky and will only use a certain brand of paint, but I'm sure there's a few in your area that will use the paint that you provide.

WOW, now no need for name calling. Im not trying to suggest he paint his car, I meant if his buddy's dad was a paint guy, con him into doing it. My neighbor is a paint guy for GM and he repainted his daughter's cavalier in their garage and it came out pretty good, lil orange peel, but good. PAINT GUY, not yourself.

But certainly the best thing to do is have a shop do it. They're professionals for a reason, and will notice every last ding, dent, scratch, and slightest imperfection. and a bad paint job could quite possibly be the worst thing in the world to see everyday.

so yeah, I wasnt trying to suggest you do it yourself, I was saying have the paint guy do it, my bad.
