Question Valve Covers

Anybody know if the valve cover off a later model D16 will fit on a early model D16. I have a 88 CRX Si. I was going to paint the valve cover becuase i couldnt find a manufacturer that sold painted valve covers for my year CRX. If anybody knows where i can find a painted valve cover let me know please :smoker: :sun:

you could have it powdercoated. i think it costs like $30-50 depending on the shop. it is good for high temp. and is very scratch resistant. they didn't have the red in i wanted so the guy did a silver and black vein with candy red in the clear coat. i can't speak for all powdercoat jobs but i know i could drop a wrench on it and nothing will happen.

a cheaper route is high temp. spray paint. it is easy and looks good. however isn't as scratch resistant. be sure to use clear or the paint will rub off if you touch it with greasey hands

i dont think you can put a later model valve cover on our 4th gen's because the spark plug holes are locatd on the oposite side, but i may be wrong.....

i believe you are correct, as far as i can think any 1.6 litre d-series engine after 91 was v-tec, and vtec sparkplugs are on the opposite side of the head

nope theres the y7 which is 1.6L and non-vtec its almost like the a6 performance wise but the plug holes are in the front instead of the back of the valve cover

what you may want to do is just get a D16 or D15 valve cover from soembody on here, strip the paint, paint it or have it polished... I think slammed89 has a few of them, I've got one but I'm doing exactly that with it, I'm stripping the paint and putting it in my CRX when I adjust the valves.

I'm pollishing my D16Y8 valve cover... May end up getting it powder coated, but probably not.

You could polish it and then have it clear powder coated doesnt lose it shinnyness and is scratch resistance.

I don't run a valve cover because it causes to much crank case pressure which creates pressure on the valve train causing the cams to slow down which creates power loss......

Mine is powdercoated Bronze.. The "Honda Motor Co." is done in red and the "H" symbol, but the DOHC VTEC still needs to be finished in red.

For the cost of getting it powdercoated is so much higher quality.. My old ZC valve cover was just high-temp painted, I even had it done by a painter and it just never looked as nice as the powdercoating.
