Almost could be a CLK-GTR, but the curves are wrong..it's longer and sleeker.

it's the CLK-LM. the infamous "flying CLK's", which earned their name after 2 of three caught wind under they're extremely flat carbon fibre bottoms on a rise in the track and went WAY airborne, causing Mercedes' permanent (so far...) withdrawal from Le Mans competition. almost same thing as a GTR, but lower to the ground and longer. (btw, i apologize to anyone who already knows the story of the flying LM's. i was just explaining it for anyone that didn't know already
). that's an excellent kit to be released, can't wait to see the first build of it!

Actually BOTH cars blew over, the first in warm up laps and then the other during the race (IIRC, it was Peter Dumbreck driving).
I THINK VRC is doing/did one one in 1:24th resin (and I know Modelers did one). Beautiful cars, but strange looking with their lack of sponsorship. I'd bet that the problem was two fold. 1. They took WAY too much downforce off the car and didn't get the chassis set-up right and then 2. They put the downforce back on the car and then REALLY messed up the chassis setup. The car was porpoising over the bumps and track ripples. NOT the way you want a car to be at Le Mans! Bill :bandit: |

It is indeed the 99 Mercedes CLR that flipped over a few times, This car and the 98 CLK were V8 powered cars verses the original 97 car's V12 as modelled by Tamiya. Mercedes was very embarrassed by this incident and has not been in GT racing at all since then. They are very sensitive to safety issues at Lemans because of their horrific 1955 accident. In 1988 they withdrew from the race just because of a blowout on the Mulsanne in practice. So it does make you wonder that after two flips before the race started they did start at all.
