Now I understand that you are on a budget and all so I need to ask what hardware do you have already. If you have the remote, servos and starter box then you might need just a tad more cash for a car. But if you have neither then 200 dollars is really out of the question unless is a use one and even that 200 bucks will not get you a complete car. Also are you looking at getting into nitro trucks and what scale of cars 1/10 or 1/8th.
I will asume you want a 1/10th car and if you want a brand new car and want the bang for the bucks I will go with one of the HPI RTR cars. brand new one will cast roughly 260 - 200 bucks look for deals on the net. Draw back with HPI is that if you want to race or go really fast then you will need to do lots of upgrade. Parts are easliy avaliable. Other cars Nitro TC3 rtr my choice if i was to get one. Out of the box very fast and much better then hpi. Also Yokohoma rtr is just as good, two tough choice right there. Intermediate to pro cars will be either the yokohoma, serpent, kyosho cars. Note all these cars will have no engine in them except for the HPI rtr cars. Stayaway from traxxas or duratrax not that they are not good cars but they tend to break very easily and not that great. But if you are serious about this hobby be prepare to spend more the thousands of dollars like I have. Hope this helps

Yeah it does look too good to be true. I have that truck and it runs around $200 or more and doesn't include a motor. Now the price may be low to attract bids. Watch the auction, it may go up towards the end. Now if it doesn't and sells for that price, it's a steal.
Of course the engine may be shot and nead a rebuild (not that big a deal, $30-50 and then break in the motor again). If you have nothing and want something to start with, you will probaly need more than $200. HPI makes a RS4 3 Nitro ready to run, if you don't like the body it comes with, HPI makes some pretty good ones. You will still need to buy fuel, $8-12 per quart, 12 AA batteries (or 8 AA batteries and a receiver battery($30-35 plus a charger $12-150), which is acutually better in the long run), after-run oil (put a few drops in the engine before putting the car away, keeps it lumbed up), tire glue (or super glue) and extra glow plugs (after breaking in the engine, the instructions strongly suggest to replace the glow plug that comes with the kit). Now you can probavly get a good deal from eBay, but if the car isn't offered NIB (new in box), there may be someproblems with the car. Some cars that are offered as kits, you will need the above stuff plus lexan scissors (to trim the body), paint for the body, basic tools, ait filter oil, you may need to buy an engine ($75-250), if you get an engine that isn't a pull start, you will need to buy a starter box and starter box battery(some come with one now) and some shock oil in different viscosities. Also look into getting some books and/or magazines for different tips and ideas. I would suggest checking into the books/magazines and reading up on this stuff before plunking down hard earned money.

At first. Greetz from Germany.
This Modellmagazins can you buy at a Hobbyshop for RC Cars. But for a nitro car you must know many over Engines. When i know the English Words for a few Parts, i would explain you what i mean. I think a electrican Car is for a newbie (sorry for the Name) much easier than a nitro. |

electric car is not necessary for a newbie you can get into nitro just as well. One will need to learn how to set up the car no matter what class it is, also with electric car you will need to learn how to solder the battery pack later and learn how to tune up your motor just like nitro. Also electric runs more in the long run then nitro. Meaning costing more then nitro due to the battery packs. Also nitro can run longer then electric a good charge on an electric may run about 10-15 mins depending how hard you drive the car, nitro is a good 20 mins + and after that just fill it up with nitro rather then charging the packs.
Personally I have both because winter time I run my electric at the track but love my nitro.

Ok thats a good Point.
I don't know that you have seen my Carlist. I drive RC more than 5 years. I think a electric car is better because for a nitro the Petrol cost much more than a Battery. Ok i have very expensice Batteries. But i can can Charge they much more as i buy the Petrol. In my Area there are one Circiut to drive a nitro. And many more Circiuts to drive an elecrtic car. That's the point why i mean a electic is better. |

Yeah you can get the magazines at hobbyshops and bookstores, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-million...etc. The Books can be gotten at hobby shops, haven't seen 'em at the "regular" bookstores. Or you can order them online through various places, like www.rccaraction.com for example.
At first glance, electric cars are cheaper initially...no nitro fuel, starter box or engine. But there are some different things for electric cars, the motors (stock(26 turn) and modified (21-8 turn)...the lower the number the faster it goes, the higher the number of winds the more torque...ie a 12 turn double has more torque and is faster than a 19 turn single, battery packs ($19-130 depending on brand and how "strong they are ic 1500mah...cheap end 3300mah...expensive) and different sized bodies, bodies for nitro cars are 200mm whereas bodies for electric are 190mm. Electric...quiet. Nitro...loud. Both kinds can go pretty damn fast. Electric cars rely on gearing, number of winds on a motor and battery. Nitro cars rely on gearing and the size of the engine and how much usable horsepower it produces.

I am not sure about where you live but over here a gallon of nitro will run me about 15 bucks. Taken that my nitro car runs only in the summer time which is roughly about 5-6 months if I am lucky and average I run at the track once a week average about 4-6 hours, with the ocasion of running during the week for fun and test. Now I usually go through about 1 gallon and maybe a lttle more. which means 15 bucks for the whole season. I think that is much cheaper then battery in the long run consider a good battery pack with a good charger cost me a lot more. Also I have been in the rc for more then 15 years so I know when i say my electric car cost me more then my nitro. But I love them both not to say you are wrong or an amature. Just want to point out that I spend more on my electric then my nitro.
hehehehe man no wonder my gf hates me I spend more on my car then her. Guess I should stop taking her to the Mcdonalds hehehehehe

Here in Germany you need 25 Euro for a half lier. Thats much more than in the USA. Thats the Point why i drive an eletric Car. I have batterys that cost more than 100 Euro, but i drive most at the time in the A Finals here. I'm a Profi in electric Cars. And we have much many more Circuits for elektric as nitro.
