Does anyone have or read Civic Duty? If not it is a basic book about civic's and the mods. Its decent eventhough it doesn't really go into depth but it definately covers basic of each mod. It might help send you in the right direction instead of buying useless "Performance Parts"

That is the only civic specific book that i have purchased. It does cover everything from show to full out racing "briefly". I think it was worth the money, you might want to try Amazon they have used or may be cheapier.

Nice seeing as how it stays specific to a certain car, but If your going spend the money to buy, and then the time to read a book on cars I'd suggest 3 books.

1. Sports Car and Competition Driving by Paul Frere

A must for anyone who wants to actually know how to drive. This book is brilliant. Great layout, covers almost every type of driving, Easy enough to understand but not so much that it detracts in any way from the quality of the book.

Most of the joys of a racing school but without the exetreme price.

2. Chasis Engineering by Herb Adams.

Very good book to start you on the way to understanding suspensions and how to tune them. It covers all the major types, their advantages and disadvantages. How to make best use out of each of them. This one doesn't get into very much math. It's not an amazing book as far as what you learn is concerned, but it's nescesary to properly understand the next book...

3. How to Make Your Car Handle by Fred Puhn.

Now this, this is a GREAT book. Very technical, explains how a suspension works, and more importantly, why. Then it teaches how to use this characteristics to your advantage. This book is very helpfull and covers virtually everything you'd ever want to know about suspensions and how to tune them. However, if your new to cars and aren't that technically inclined I'd suggest Chasis engineering first.

I got all 3 of these books shipped from amazon.ca for about $80 canadian. Thats only about $50 american and it's definitly the best value you'll ever get as far as your car is concerned.

But then, this only covers driving and suspension tuning, most people don't give a damn about that, they're only concerned with the engine and straight line performance. Oh well, My next shipment of books will focus engine modification, both maintenance, forced induction and N/A. Then after that I'll move onto body work and restoration. Gotta keep the priorities straight .

1. How to drive
2. How to make the car handle better.
3. How to make the engine more powerful
4. How to make it look nice, just so long as it doesn't detract in ANY way from the performance

I also have How to Make Your Car Handle by Fred Puhn this is a great suspension book & very technical. I also have a book called Handling! What it is and How to Get it. Both of the above books are atleast 10 years old. Neither talk about sport compacts back in 1981 & 1983 people werent into civic & so on

Doesn't matter! physics is physics.

Things haven't changed, so everything you learn in those books still applies to cars today You just need to know how to apply it. If you can't transition from one car to another then you don't really understand the information, your just following instructions layed out for your specific vehicle.

I have Civic Duty, and I agree, its a really good book. It gives a whole overview of most the engines Honda makes, it also gives a lot of info about what to do depending on what your going for. It also makes a good point about figuring out what it is you want for your car, rather than just buying random things as you go. I know a lot of people that do that and then they end up spending more money than they should have.

This thread was meant for those of the people who dont know a lot about cars. Yes the suspension books do apply to "suspension" and if you are looking for technical info you might try those. Who was advertising?:bonghitte
