Whats faster?3.1L or2.4L Cavaliers?

I am trying to compare the 2nd generation Cavalier to the 3rd genration.What I am more interested in is a comparison of the 91-94 3.1L 5 speed Cavalier as to the 95-2001 2.4L Cavalier 5 speed.Both cars are rated stock at 140hp and a 3.1 has 162ft-lbs of torque as to the 2.4 with 149ft-lbs of torque.What is faster stock or with full mods such as a blower with good lower engine componenets,heads,cam,exhaust,and so forth?

Actually the 2.4 is rated at 150hp, 10 more than the 3.1. The new ecotec 2.2 (2.4's replacement) is rated @140. What the 3.1 gives you is massive amounts of torque and a unique feel that the 2.4 or the ecotec could never produce. I can't speak for the 95 Z's with the quad 2.3 motor, but they are also rated @150, so I assume that it's probably pretty much the same as the 2.4. If torque is what you're looking for, then the 3.1MPFI is your answer. On the flip side, the 2.4 cav's are a little quicker. JUST FOR THE RECORD, I'M NOT TRYING TO START A BATTLE! I AM MAKING COMPARISONS BASED ON STOCK (YES STOCK) VEHCILES. The aerodynamics of the 3gen Z's teamed up with the more sophisticated 2.4 make for a faster car. But i can tell you that it's not that much faster. the 2.4 does 0-60 in 7.7, and i think that the 3.1 is about 8.0 sec. Difference is really small.

The old 3.1's also had 185 lb-ft of torque, not 162.
