Unhappy Driving mishap

2 days I was driving down this rural road out in the country in my civic. I was in a hurry cause I was meeting my friends to go snowboarding. There was this mini van in front of me slowing me down so i decided to pass it. I put the pedal to the floor (1.5 liter) and I was well past him so I let up on the gas but the car continued to speed up quick I had no idea what to do so I put the clutch in and the engine just revs so bad redline. I kept the clutch in shut off the ignition and rolled to the side of the road. Still puzzled when I came to a stop I fired it up again and the same high pitched reving. The gas pedal somehow stuck to the floor which was surprising cause nothing was obstructing it. I Unlodged it and let the car breath for a while and then drive away normal. The car has since driven fine, but I'm wondering if this mishap may have caused internal engine damage which is not noticeable now but may be in due time. what can I do to figure this out? Is this rare for the gas pedal to stick?

Sounds like your throttle cable got stuck... either it could be wearing out, or it was due to the cold...

Your car probably has a limiter, so it isnt possible for it to go too far past redline, so I doubt that substainsial engine damage has occured.

As far as the gas pedal sticking, possibly check your throttle cable... Thats what I would do.
