The winner is the winner so he should have a quantifiable advantage as far as the championship goes. This year it will be not so important to win a rally. And seeing as we are all drivers, we want to win.

"The situation is too contradictory," he added. "If I finish second I've got about the same number of points as the winner, which is not correct."

I totally agree with him. This whole new system is only there to make the F1 championship seem closer in 2003 and not allow MS close it up by France. I really don't like the fact that the gap between 1st and 2nd is the same as 2nd and 3rd

On the other hand, there is an F1 v FIA meeting scheduled soon, so they still may change the system, and WRC wil hopefully change it as well.

I agree with you Alex. WRC has nothing to do with F-1. The circumstance in both championships are different so there is ABSOLUTELY no need to adapt the system from one competition to another. It's a pitty they did that. There is a risk that a consistent driver take the title without winning a single event - and that would be a big farce

I agree with you both....the scoring system is warped.....but think of this, they could adopt teh Nascar system where you still get points regardless of whether you finish......you only have to start and then get placed depending when you drop out etc.......

As usual Marcus is completely right!

They had to change from the 10,6,4,3,2,1 system because it wasn't fair to the smaller teams now that each manufacturer can nominate three cars. Last year that ment that half of the ponts scoring positions were filled by Peugeots as often that not!

But what the FIA should have done was return to the old system the WRC used up till 1997, where the winner got 20 points , second 15 and so on all the way down to 10th. That way even more guys score points and the winner still gets a substantial advantage over the rest of the field.

The F1 system is screwed up even for F1. There the FIA(t)s spin is that it was introduced to help stop the Ferrari domination - yeah right! Who has the most reliable car? That's right, Ferrari, so they will benefit MOST from the new system.

For WRC to just follow in F1s flawed footsteps is very sad.

While I agree with the need to change the number of points-scoring positions, I agree with Mr Gronholm that first place should get a more significant reward than 2nd place. As RallyRaider suggests, the previous scoring system would be better.

I think what worries me most is that the FIA are trying to bring WRC more into line with F1. Max Mosely and the FIA should leave WRC as it is now, successful and competitive. Their attempts to 'sort out' F1 and reduce the impact of Ferrari's domination have been at best useless, and at worse detrimental to the rest of the teams. Now that WRC is starting to attract a more global audience they seem to feel the need to interfere...I fear for the future

I hope that not the same thing will happen to WRC as did happen to DTM when FIA converted it to ITC in '95/'96 and a bit later to the GT series.
