Remember that the rpm in which the transmission shifts depends on the throttle position and how fast you reach such position, I mean that if you go slowly to 3/4 of the throttle, it will change at lower RPM, if you place fast the throttle to the 3/4 position, it will maintain the gear until higher rpm , because the computer thinks you are trying to go faster (bypassing another car, etc.), not going in economy mode.
So to see if your over drive is working ( if the o/d light is not blinking and your check engine light is off, it must be working fine), go to at least 60 mph, with the gas pedal as light as you can, and press the o/d button, if the rpm change, your automatic transmission is working perfectly

sounds like u totally screwed the overdrive button. when I take it off my car goes in to a higher rpm and I literally ghost. When I put it back on the rpm goes down which makes me go faster before reaching the redline.

Re: automatic drivers

when you race, do you take the O/D off? The engine revs about 1000 rpm's higher w/out O/D and feels alot more snappy obviously.

Re: automatic drivers

Yes, when you race, race with the O/D off. It might be a good idea to powershift by running through the gear selector up until your redline (ie. have the shifter in first, around 6 throw it to second, etc..)

At the top of your third gear you should hit like 125 before you redline, that's when you pop your overdrive and hit that fourth gear.

Automatics suck. Heh. I've never liked mine.

I Have O/D off and just put it in 2 because 1st gear always has traction problems then when the car hits 6000RPM in 2 I push it up to drive. Only once have I redlined it 3rd gear but wait until 6000-6200RPM before turning O/D back on.
If you just leave O/D on it will got into 4th gear way to early, like 5700, this literally STOPS the climb or your MPH.

Keep it safe, only once have I ran it hard all the way up to 4th.
