Question Okay, what's this thing? (Race Car Reference Pic)

For your consideration, I present one "knobby thing" sticking out the cowl end of an S2000's hood:

A wider shot; "knobby thing" still quite visible...

What is it?

TIA!~

Possibly a re-routed dipstick? Seems like checking oil during races would be critical.

Emergency fuel and engine shut off.......in a bad wreck you don't want the engine running when the driver is trapped in the car

Correct, the hint is the red triangle on the fender that is pointing toward it.

actually, the red triangle on the fender pointing to it is actually an Advan (japanese tire maker owned by Yokohama) symbol. there's one on the other fender as well, you can just see the tip of it in the second pic.

Well, it could have been an indicator in a parallel universe :alien:

You mean this thing?

It's on the dashboard.

S13_Iketani is right, those are just ADVAN logos, unrelated to the "knobby thing":

IN a parallel universe, maybe, but that car's from THIS universe, dude! :grey:

btw, my guess would have to be either a dipstick of some sort (oil, tranny etc.) or some sort of quick hood release. not sure if race cars even HAVE hood latches (which is why they have hood pins...), but hey, that's why it's a guess!:alien2:

And what if the driver is unconscious?
That is and engine shut off on the dash, but every touring/rally car I have seen has a shut-off just in front off the windshield

what if the car is upside down or the hood area is crumpled and that latch is unreachable AND the driver is unconscious?

To be honest, I dunno......never had a reason to go crawling under the car.....I am certain they have some sort of precaution in place though.

There is no need to start an argument about this......too, I mean, one thread a week is enough.
