Making of - Mini Cooper 1275S Rally (*Progress pics*)
Since I’ve finished the F310b and am in that apply decals, rest, apply clear coat, rest phase in the Alpine I decided to start a new project. Actually three
This is the first one, the lovely Morris Mini Cooper 1275S Monte Carlo Rally version. Already started with the basics. Cut and sand the body parts, and wash it with a toothbrush and blue and white soap to remove all the dusts and waxes. Today I’ll apply the first of two white primer coats.

I enjoyed your build report on the Ferrari F310, so I'm looking forward to another good read with this kit.
Are you planning any mods or enhancements or will it be box-stock?

Gainsbourg, I just finished this kit myself, it is a very nice kit, but I don't think the colors you want to paint the body with are correct. I researched the kit to make sure of the colors and found that the X-7 the kit calls for is the closest match to the actual car, also the Tamiya pure white spray is too bright for the roof. I would rather recommend using the regular gloss white acryllic or enamel paint. Ray

Unfortunately I don’t have a working aerograph at the moment and don’t really want to paint it with a brush I will do some tests with the colours to see if they really match.Focus2000: Nope, this one will be straight form the box

Ooops...typed the wrong paint code there
![]() When I tried airbrushing the X-8 and then sprayed TS-8 I thought there was a variation in the colors.....the same with X-2 and TS-26.....but that does not matter, it is your model ![]() I just posted the photo above to give you an idea of the colors since I used the ones from the instructions. I am fortunate to have an airbrush too. I am sure you will do a better job on the kit than I ![]() Ray

i cant wait to see how your mini progresses. someone posted a link to a site that had progress pics of two mini's being built with sick detail. Here is the link just in case you missed it http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mokeikan...g/modeling.htm
i picked up a mini after looking at the site. it's very helpful even though i cant read anything on it. cheers rob |

If I can make a job just close to what you have done I will be a happy man. Sorry, X-7 is red not X-8, my mistake. ![]() I have searched for the colours used by other people that build this model. They used TS-8 for the body. Anyway I will make that test to confirm any tonality difference. For the roof as you have said (contrary to Tamiya correspondence) TS-26 is not the appropriated colour but TS-7 (Racing White). Rob, I took a good time seeing the images of that amazing ultra-detailed Mini engine. It’s far beyond my skills

Gainsbourg,
I am not being modest, I have seen your work and don't think mine compares ![]() If you have to choose between the Racing White and Pure White, I would rather say to use Pure White, Racing White is to creamy I think. I use ModelMaster gloss white and airbrushed the roof, but I know that aside my 206 kit which is painted Pure White it is a different shade of white. I think I am confusing the issue here, you should use the color you feel best suits the car ![]() Ray

Ray: I like your work you like my work, that’s the important. Racing White was definitively not the appropriate colour to paint the roof. I did some tests with spray/bottle paints and realise that the initial choice was the correct. Here is the status of the body. The colour in the photo doesn’t represent the real tonality that is a little darker. The chassis is already painted and since I’ll have at least three more days to paint / let rest the body I will start to build the engine.

I'm astounded by how prolific you are Nuno!
I can't see the pictures at the moment (I'm at work and can only access this site through a 'backdoor') but look forward to checking them out at home tonight. |

We're off for another cool building report. The paint job looks very nice, don't it always? Looking forward to the rest of the building.
Freakray, yours is very well finished too! |

First my apologies to all Alpine lovers that were following the A110 progress but the project is suspended for now since I’m canalising all my effort to the building of the Mini. ![]() As you can see the exterior of the body is in a good stage. I will now paint the interior so I can then attach the body to the chassis. ![]() Engine and interiors are done, only needing some small repairs. I have some doubts about the colour of the seats. I used the correct paints in the correct proportions and the result was this kind of flat dark pink. No main problem during the construction of this model. All parts fit well and above all is a really joy to build this one. More progresses to come. |
