I'd like to hear suggestions on the best tires for autocross duty
that also work well for daily driver use. It seems like the top contenders would be the Bridgestone S-03 PP and Michelin's Pilot Sport. I'm currently running the Firestone Firehawks SZ50EP. I've been pretty pleased with track performance, as well as ride comfort and tire life, but wanted to make the best possible move. Other candidates would be the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712, the Ecsta MX, the Yokohama AVS SPort or AVS ES100, and the BFG T/A KD. I guess there's also offerings from Toyo, Falken, Nitto, and Hangkook, but I'd prefer to stay with more mainstream brands, unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise. I would consider going back to the Firestone, but they don't make a "legal" size to fit my application. My current "performance rubber" is 235/45x17; the car is a '00 Maxima SE 5spd. This fitment works great on my car, but unfortunately I've got to get down to 225/45x17, or 225/50x17, to be legal in STS. Any experience to share on runnning 225/45s on this car; it's riding on Eibach Sport Springs (1.5" drop) and Tokico shocks. Any ground clearance issues? Oh, I will also continue to run a number of track day type (non-SCCA) events; but would like to get more active with Solo II. So a tire that doesn't "go away" when its warmed up on a road course is a plus, as is a tire that works well at ambient temperature for Solo II. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
