Thumbs up silicone grease on plug wires?

can anyone tell me is it important to put silicone grease on the ends of spark plug wires whenever they are removed from the plugs? ( on a ford f-150 with a 351)

Fords are notorious for requiring silicone grease on their secondary ignition. This keeps the moisture out and also aids with removing the spark plug wire later.

And even on GM cars, there used to be a campaign about using silicone.

hope this helps you out.
