i have a problem!!!not enough rpms!!!
Hey guys I got a problem here......I have been practicing take offs the line lately....by the way i have a 96' Cavy manual and the shift between 1st and second gear doesnt go so great ......I dont have enough Rpms in 2nd gear right after i shift it has to build back up there and it doesnt get all that great excelleration.....one thing i think would help was if i knew how to double clutch......
Im new to all of this so its all kind of a learning thing....can anyone tell me how to double clutch or some other method of shifting that will increase my speed...also engine mods that would help this problem alsoThanks in advance |

Dont think double clutching in your car will help you a whole lot, Double clutching is most common on heavy trucks how ever the way you do it is simple when shifting gears simply push the clutch once and pull the stick out of gear release the clutch while your moving to the next gear, when your ready to put it in the next gear push the clutch again and slip it in gear and release the clutch again, its that simple basically your just pushing the clutch twice every shift instead of once, it would be like this
1-clutch in - off throttle 2-take out of gear 3-clutch out 4-clutch in 5-put in next gear 6-clutch out - on throttle This is nessasary on heavy truck transmisions because they wont go into gear unless the engine RPMS and the Transmision speed match, so by releasing the clutch after you take it out of gear helps keep the transmision gears up to speed while shifting.

Sorry chevyfreak but , DevilDog01 is correct. Double-Clutching will not help much, especially if you are not an expert at shifting.

Isn't double clutching only for deceleration??
![]() Double clutching during acceleration will only slow you down.(although better on the synchro's), cause when you double clutch for acceleration, when you let off the clutch when it's in neutral, you actually have to wait for the motor's rpm's to drop and match where you will be when you shift to the next gear. What RPM are you shifting into the next gear BTW??

Yeah your right Hummerman I did forget the throttle between steps 3 and 4, my bad, but its kind of pointless cause sounds like you agree that it wont help him accelerate any faster any how, and yeah your right as well about not needing the clutch if you can match the engine rpms with the right gear for your speed you can shift with out any clutch, this is better known as Floating Gears, Most truck drivers will tell you a clutch is for starting and stopping, and nothing more but once again these teqniques are not nesasaraly a great idea with your common car tranny.

Hey I am looking for some Power / Speed for my cavy too, seems like most people are doing Cold Air Kits, people are boasting anywhere from 5-10 hp from doing this, I found a Super Charger kit boast 80+ hp gain which is huge but so is the price tag at almost 4000.00 man if I had an extra 4 grand lying around I would be driving a Camaro SS and not a Cavalier LOL, but hey if you hear any really good not quite so expensive tips be sure to let me in on it ok.

You can try this but its really hard on trans and engine, dont let off gas when you shift.Keep in mind this is not a good habit for everyday driving but if your fast enough when you shift it works well when you race.
