Buying a CD faceplate.......
I went to The Good Guys and ask them how much would they charge to install a cd face. One guy said installation was free because they had a special. Then he aked his manager and he said $150. He said that they needed to bypass the amp($80) and some other bullshit. Then he said that I needed to replace all my speakers for new ones. Are they trying to pull one off cause I just noded my head and said Ok. But really I was saying those fucking assholes are trying to rip me off. What do u guys think.

Well, you don't really NEED speakers, but if you want a cleaner, crisper sound, you should get new speakers. As for the head unit, when you go to a shop, they should charge you around $100 dollars for instalation. $50 for labor, and $50 for parts. that is bull because the harness costs about $10-$15, and if you have the P10, it uses an ISO-DIN slot, which means you can just use the stock mounting brackets. And for the P11, you would prolly need a slot for the lower DIN if you have a single DIN head unit. if they install that "step down" harness (which cuts out the factory amp) it shouldn't cost $150. I say, do it yourself, save some money. I know that they do have harnesses out there that do cut out the stock amps, but you could just get the regular Infiniti harness, and re wire your speakers right from the head unit. By the way, what kind of head unit did you get?

nice, I have the Kenwood KDC 516s. It's not even the top of the line model and I love it.

yah, you should try installing it yourself unless you're doing a totally custom installation needing panels and stuff. it's half the fun.

you don't need to bypass the factory amps but you should. i had an aftermarket deck in for about 2-3 mo w/o bypassing the factory amps. it sucks. even when you have it turned down to the lowest setting, it's still loud. so i would get that done too.
also you don't need new speakers. but again, if you want better sound you should get some new ones. if you can get it all at once, and see if the guys will bargain with you. places like soundtrack will bargain, but circuit city won't. they'll probably give you a better deal if you buy a lot of stuff. if you can't buy it all right now, i would just get the deck, i like kenwood, alpine, pioneer, and bypass the factory amps.

I was deciding between the NAK 45z and the JVC KDSH 99. But I decided to stay with the NAK 45. When I got it from the installer, there are gaps around the head unit area. From reading this forum other people ran into the same problem going from Double DIN to single DIN.
In general I've had good experience with Good Guys and bad with Circuit City. You can negotiate prices more in Good guys. |
