Question Breather valves??

I saw a kid who had a quote, "valve cover breather", which was on the top left corner side of the cover. It was one of those little air filters that are like 2 or 3 inches wide. What is the point of this, is it helpful or harmful? I thought those breather filters were for forced induction applications.

that lil filter is used instead of the silicone tube that is run from the intake pipe to your engine block, it wont affect any kind of performance and ive actually seen worse results from putting them on.

My friend also suggested this for me. Right now I have the standard tube that is connected to the engine block.

you might hear a very small noise coming from it, a lot less than your intake made when you first put it on.

its done mostly for aesthetic reasons. i have heard some people complain about oil leaking back out of it and lost performance, making it seem pointless unless its strictly for show. spend your money on a hose thats a lot cheaper, and you will be happier.

heheeh... I remember that... there was a teen who wanted to know something about driving stick - his girlfriend left the car in gear at stoplights, and he thought it was lame, or something like that. The kid said (in regard to the way his girlfriend worked the shifter) "I would never...stick."

it was something like ivymike said, i cant remember any more detail than that. i just thought it was a funny line because the kid was entirely serious.
