STi finds an american home
per autoweek oct 1st issue
yes, im not copyin and pastin... im typing this all in "we're told the beefed-up STi will come to the states in 2003 as a 2004 model... the STi employs a redesigned flat four generating up to 261hp and 253tq (compared to 227 and 217). the heavily modified turboed engine w/ active valve control even employs a switch that sprays the enlarged intercooler w/ water. the car is fitted w/ 225/45 tires on gold spoked alloys, stiffer suspension and front and rear limited slip diffs, a 6 speed gearbox and large brembos.interior upgrades include blue suede effect seats." sounds like a winner... this was debuted at frankfurt w/ the prodrive version next to it... "the prodrive style comes w/ a huge rear spoiler, a deeper front bumper and a higher hood scoop, all to make it look more like a comp car" and the STi has the proj h/ls as well... hmm...

this is an american version.
it is only 261. trust me. why do you think the m3 that we had forever had only 243 hp, when you could get it in europe w/ 350ish... b/c they didnt give it to us. when it shows up w/ only 261, which it will, let me know whatcha think... but just b/c that is what it has over there, it prolly wont here. especially b/c of emissions. that drops power a bit. but you are gonna have to trust me, b/c autoweek is not wrong often, and i dont think you could really botch a number like that one.

261 aint that bad.... I'd take that
 before people were saying like 221... i was in shock  but 261 isn't too far off, and won't there be like an engine chip or something that will put it back up to the stock jap numbers?

BMW thinks that most american won't dish out the money for 320hp Euro Spec E36 M3. That's why they only gave the 240hp version here. However when E46 M3 came out the price went up a lot as well to cover for the new 333hp M3 offered in North America.
