NSX's tailpipes?

Yesterday I saw an NSX parked, and noticed that the exhaust tips were 4"-5" in diamater, despite the pipes that were half that or less; was this factory, or did the owner install f*rt cannons (on an NSX, no less!!!)? BTW, these look welded on, not the obvious-looking clamp-on tips.

That person may have put an exhaust system on it or open the stock tips up to what was on it. I would look stupid with 5in tips though.
