I'm thinking of buying the Sakatsu Dress Up parts for my Castrol Mugen NSX. How are they to work with? I've never tried to use then before.

Also, what's a "fair" price?

Dont know about cost, but if you've tried one before they can be a little fiddly, hard to paint and glue.
You need to make sure the part are clean for the paint to stick and use superglue to stick them together.

I have a similar set for my Pennzoil GT-R.
Photo etch is great, but it has it's place!

It is tough, and you need a good pair of scissors to remove it of the tree!
Paints well, though you must primer the parts you want to paint. Keying them with wet & dry will do no harm.

Their real use is in bages, tow hooks, belt hardware and any other part where plastic is too thick! Use a multi purpose glue like Krystal Klear to gule it, you can't use plastic glue!

Should you get it? Hell yeah, for the seat belts alone!!! The brakes will look great if you polish them up!

The only thing I don't use are the wipers! They are a pain to bend into shape and a rarely long enough!

Go for it! It makes a model really special!
The best kits like Studio 27 use tons of photo etch!
I have a Ferrari F40 kit that has 18 sheets of photoetch!!!

There's a seller on eBay who must have a stockpile...

I bid on this auction and lost... Up grade parts Tamiya NSX

Then, five minutes later, this one was listed... Up grade parts Tamiya NSX

The seller's name is starhobbies

Let me know if you're going to bid, so we don't end up driving each others' prices up... Maybe we could contact him and ask for a group deal...

if you can get a hold of some.. buy it.. cause it has been discontinued...

I don't think I'll be doing my NSX kits anytime soon, so I'll just think of some other way to make those parts shiny later

HLJ has it listed; did you ever try and order it from them? Is it one of those things that's always on back order?

*YAY* I won my auction!!!

I'm now waiting to take possession...

I found a link about working with photo etch, which I'm posting here so I don't lose it, and so anyone else interested can read up on it:

Working with photoetched-metal parts

I got it in the mail yesterday, and it's totally cool!

The hood pins alone are awesome!!!

Of course, there are parts that I don't know where they go, and two wipers, when the kit only takes one...

It has two Honda emblems where the kit only needs one, so I'll use the other on my NSX-R.

Now I may have have to bump this kit up in the queue. After the S2000, of course.

Don't know if anyone's still looking, but now HLJ seems to have the NSX parts set 'in stock.'

http://www.hlj.com/cgi-local/hljpage.cgi?SAK3033

1480 yen ~ $12.33...

I think allot of Photo-etch is overkill and not really needed to build a nice car. Somethings are really necessary though like seatbelt hardware and scripts and badges and some cars like the Lancia 037 have a grill(the one across the back)that can only really done in photo-etch. I have seen 1/43rd scale kits that seem to have photo-etch parts just for the sake of having them not because they really enhance the model. Tow hooks as an example are fine in plastic if you sand them down a bit and enlarge the holes. It really depends on the subject matter if it is worth it or not. A tip I can highly recommend is go to a well stocked Model Railroad Hobby shop and you will be amzed how much detail stuff can be used on car models.

I'm still looking!! :finger:

I've never even considered buying 'dress up-kits'. In Europe there sold for nearly the price of the kit and I think there's a lot in it, you don't really need/can see/use.

Discc: When detail painted nearly as good.
Aerials: avialable seperate
Hood attachments: avialable seperate
Wipers: avialable seperate and all better priced. Maybe not 100% accurate, but they look nearly as good. I think...

Well, since you bought them: Good luck with them and show us the result afterwards!!
