Volvo T5-R

This was one of the projects which took the longest to built, and the ironic thing is... it's not even mine

some one offered me a ... lets just say large enough amount of money for me to built them an EXACT model of their car.. a yellow Volvo T-5R Limited

This car itself does not have a model, but Tamiya did make a Volvo 850 Wagon, which was what I used as a base...

A front lip was made by hand with Tamiya Putty, and a sunroof was carved out on the top of the roof. The body was pretty much then finished after that.. not much work there..

the time consuming part was the 17" 5 spoke wheels that ONLY came in that T-5R.. I had to go out and buy a set of 1/24 17" Fujimi 5-spoke rims, totally cut it up and re-did the entire thing with putty until it looks exactallylike the one in the real car. (luckly Fujimi rims sets usually comes with Pirelle P-Zero tires, which was what the real T-5R was equipped with).

then the next trouble was to match the paint ... I went out and bought a bottle of touch up paint from Volvo for that car and sat there for a day trying to match it with Tamiya colors... it work out great after 4 hrs or so of mix an match...

a set of front headlight wipers was stolen from a Tamiya Benz S500 Coupe to acomidate the Volvo (but it was not put not yet at the time these pictures was taken)

and finally, I took the decals that came with the kit and managed to cut it up and make the emblem at the rear that says "T-5R"

window tints was also added for the real one had some

here is a picture of the real car

here are the pictures of the model

I've stopped building kits for other people now as you cant really put a price on the amount of work you put into them. Plus people who dont do kits dont understand either.
I built about 4 NASCARS for people and the work that goes into them is endless.

ya i know what you mean, but this guy is a pretty old guy, and he's really into model collections too... but his eyes are not as good now as they used to be, so modeling is not the best for his age now.. thou he showed me some of the work he's done in his younger stage, and I gota say, they are AMAZING... so I'd kind of took it as an honour having him pick me out of everyone to do a model of his car for him...

and he's rich too.. it was actually him who offered to pay me good money to build him a kit... he actually offered more for it, but i feel bad to take so much money from him..

my T-5R model now is sitting next to a 1/6 metal diecast F50 model (costing some crazy amount like $500US) so i'm pretty happy.. and his wife told me that the day he got the model, he parked his real T-5R on his driveway, all washed up and polished and put the model on the hood and took TONS of pictures of it.. heehee... so It was worth it..

thou I don't think I'll build another model for anyone else in the near future

That is gorgeous!!!

I have a T5 project which I haven't started yet, but it will use Touring car suspension with various other parts to make a nice, low, suptly modified estate!

Great colour too, looks like a lot of the T5R's we get round here!

Well done! You must have been gutted to give it up!!
