to drift or not to drift
what makes a car good for drifting? i know you need rwd, but there are so many other cars that are rwd but people dont drift with them.
example, i see s13s drifting, but not camaros i see rx-7s drifting but not supras (excluding the jun akira supra, thats one of a kind) what makes the ae86 and the silvia such good drift cars compared to others? |

I think it is mainly the weight distribution. IIRC the trueno has a perfect weight distribution of 50/50 and I think the s13 chassis is right behind with a 48/52. The camaro has a huge iron block V8 (just referring to the Z28) sitting up front which makes it very front heavy. when drifting the nose would want to pull inwards, causing a spinout. I think the reason why you dont see many supras (referring to MKIV) drifting is because of their weight. they are just to heavy.

supra's are heavy-ass cars, but i've known people to make drifters out of the old JZA70 models (the generation before the last one). don't underestimate the camaro as a drifter though. i know someone in Hawaii that regularly drifts a Camaro, he even enters it in competitions, is in a drift club, and has even been in Option2!

yes, i've recently discovered the weight issue that jspec is talking about(except a 300zx, not a supra...)
i think iketani is reffering to this... http://www.driftsession.com/drivers/chrisk.htm

yep. that's chris, the crazy bastard. his camaro looks alot different now then that picture. he has an R34 look-alike front bumper from an Accord custom fitted to it, and one piece projector headlights fitted to it (also meant for an Accord), and he recently was t-boned, but we haven't talked in a while so i'm not sure if he got it fixed yet or not. he's been in Option2, Battle Mag, Drift Tengoku and a few other jap drift mags. he's a very skilled drifter, even with the Camaro. he just knows how to drive it. i guess it goes to show you that it's not totally about what the car can do, but also about how the driver can handle the car.

the things you would need for drifting are a LSD, some shitty rims some nice negative camber and crazy control of your car

it doesn't matter how much hp u have as long as u have enough to spin the back wheels while the car is out of control u can drift

no minimum horsepower wise. hachi's (AE86 Corolla's) only make about 140hp stock, and many amateurs use them without upping the power on the engine. more power IS better at times, but it's not a definite necessity.
