To B or Not to B

alrighty,

My car has not broken the only original part in my car the L3 transmission. 2nd gear is pretty much shot... still usable but not for engine breaking cuz it pops out. I have been wanting a B series engine for a while and this a perfect oportunity to get one. I can get about 1g (cnd) for my ZC with everything and can get a JDM B16A1 for about 2500$ (cnd$) with everything I need to swap it in. Now at the VERY least I am looking at 1500$ to fix my car (transmission and new clutch)

now to me this makes perfect sense.

But I can also get my hands on a B18A1 with 200 000Km (engine, trans, ECU, wire harness, axles...) for 750$ the only things I would need are engine mounts, distributor and starter (say 1000$) I was also thinking gettin CTR pistons and getting the rods pitted, new gaskets, water pump, timing belt... few other goddies and i would be under the 3000$ mark.

I'm leaning a little more towards the B16 though... cuz it's more than likely got less KM on it... not to mention more potential.

Go with the B16.. You should be able to pick one up for even cheaper than that.. I payed $1250 for mine and thats motor/tranny/ECU. (I'm talking in Canadian funds too) Try e-mailing this guy and see if he has any and how much: [email protected]

I'll check around and see where you can get one cheaper.. Its probably cheaper to get one from Ontario and ship it to where you are, as there are a lot of shops, importers and people around here.. (Toronto and area)

See i would love to get the ls motor or b20 cause of torque. The thing thats keepin me away from it is that they lack on top end! So if you want the best of both worlds go with b18c5 I would just get the block and slap on a 1st gen b16 head on it.

$2500 isn't a bad price at all then if that includes the mounts... They were the biggest pain in the ass when getting a swap, paying $450 just to get the mounts to put the damn motor in.

Go with whatever you want.. The B16A is going to be faster, but then you won't be able to say that you have more than 115 lbs-ft of torque..

To me, it doesn't really matter.. The B16 just fuckin' rips above 5,500rpm.. Torque is nice and all, but I like to have a motor that doesn't fall on its face as my revs go up up and away. The S1 tranny is an amazing tranny too.. Perfect for the B16. No torque doesn't really matter much when your revs stay over 6000 the whole time anyway.
