S14 Project from HELL.

Hi folks.

Not much to show yet on what is probably the most complicated project that I have ever attempted but thought that I would start what will be a long ongoing thread showing this cars buildup with a description of what I will be attempting.

Firstly the kit is the Fujimi veilside S14 which will be built in the style of the C West below. The main modifications will be to the wheel arches which need to be widened and also raised as the car will sit much lower. The front will be a one piece removable unit and a SAS wing will be added to the back.

The real work, however is underneath! As so many modifications were required to transform from road to race car, I decided to completely scratch build the entire chassis, steering and suspension from brass and aluminium. This will include the roll cage which will extend front and back to form a full spaceframe and the floor that is sheet aluminium.

Here are a few pics of work so far completed showing the ‘real’ shocks and the double wishbone suspension and steering that I am working on at the moment. (since these pics, the front right suspension is complete and WORKING!!).

Also ‘on my work bench’ at the moment is an R32 GTR engine with oversized turbos that will be getting the full detail treatment.

Be sure to come back as I will update whenever something new is finished.

MERRY XMAS to all!!!!!!!!!!!

Toksin, the shocks are thin brass tube with brass bar that fits nicely inside. The springs are from a 'mini z', (is that right?). My local hobby store sells springs in packs of 6, 3 pairs with different stiffnesses.

On top and bottom of the shock there is a very small piece of the tubing soldered horizontaly to the 2 separate parts. This will allow it to be hinged top and bottom and move slightly as the suspension goes up and down.

Here are some shots to give an idea of how it fits to the main chassis rails. Note, none of this is finished yet, just plonked in place to check fitment.

You can also see that the wheels will be bolted on and removable.

I have to work over xmas and newyear but hopefully will get some soldering in to post more advanced pics NEXT YEAR!!

Hi,

Thought that I would resurect this thread with a few pics of progress on what is now called the 'Veilside S14 GTR-LM' or something like that.

Seems to be taking forever so far.

Have mounted the front double wishbones and will complete the suspension when the spaceframe is built (need it for the top shock mountings).

Have spent most of my recent time starting on the body. The Fujimi head and tail light are awfull so decided to fit the units from an R33 GTR-LM, together with the bonnet vent.

I hope to soon be finished with one fromt wheel arch/wing and start to copy onto the other side before separating the complete front and starting work on the rear arches.

Will keep you posted.

Bye.

The brake isnt really the wrong way around, just there to give me an idea of how wide the arches need to be.
