home-made custom interior

ok, I am planning on getting an accord and making it my project for a while.

I plan on it being a sort of deep blue metallic and want to do a blue/white interior and I think some slight yellow accents would look good but not sure.

anyways, forget the colors but is this possible-

buy the strongest contct cement I can find, STRIP the interior, spread some contact cement on a peice, buy a quantity of vinyl and stretch it over the various parts of my interior and do it that way. and my neighbor says that it will work even on unflat surfaces by just pushing it to form to the part and the cement will hold. anybody dopne it this way? does it work?

also when you cover one peice and you want it to be different colors, could i just cut them to fit neatly together in a straight l;ine and put a trim peic over the seems like on edges of seats? i think it would look kinda funnny like that, so do you think it would work, cuttoing cardboard cutouts of both peices and warp the vinyl on that and then glue that to the interior, so then there wont be rough cut edges showing?

I just made those 2 ideas of 2 tone design as i typed and I sont really like either. anyone have any better ideas.

Ok, you got parts of it right. First, there is a glue made for this kind of stuff, fabric glue, not sure where you'll find it though. Here's the correct way to vinyl things. If you're going to replace fabric such as on your door panel, take off the old piece and cut the pattern out for it. If there wasn't a piece there before, measure it to the piece you want to put it on and always measure a little bit extra. When putting it on, apply a healthy amount of glue. When you go to put the vinyl on, use a heat gun or a blow dryer to heat up the vinyl which will allow it to stretch easier. Then stretch that sucker tight and secure it on there. Make sure you heat it up though, or else it won't stretch enough for you and then it will stretch and sag when the weather gets too hot.
About your idea of putting two pieces together and putting a trim piece over it, good and bad idea. Bad because it will fall apart. You should sew it together first, and then put a trim piece over it. You won't see where it's sewn together because of the trim piece, and the thread will hold it together forever. Hope that helps.

My $.02 worth.
If you can't find the fabric glue you can use 3M part number 08090 "Super Trim Adhesive" comes in a spray can with adjustable nozzle. You can usually find it in the hardware stores and auto parts stores.
