Oil type question?
Alright, I love the best for my car. So what would be the best oil? I run it hard sometime, well alot. I have a 99 gsr w/28k, I usually run Castrol GTX 10-30, should I go with 5-30 all year around, or go with a totally diff oil altogether

Oil type?
Integra '95 owners manual says 5W - 30W is "preferred", unless your ambient temperature NEVER goes below 20 degree F.

I always use that 5w-30 quaker state formulated for high mileage engines... I've used that about 5 straight oil changes and compared my emission numbers with the numbers I just got and there was a considerable drop in every category. (Sorry,I'm sounding like a commercial now).
Since I'm not spending $5 a qt. for synthetic oil - I save enough to get a K&N oil filter for each change (that could also be why it's running cleaner). anyway

could someone explain to me what it means if its 10W50 or like 5W30 and all what those numbers mean also why does synthetic oil cost more?

5W30 is for hot weathers and 10W30 is for cold weather. i use 10W30 all year around with Mobile 1 = $5.00 each and Mobile 1 filters = $12.00 each.

the question about:what does 10w-30 and 5w-30... the numbers stand for the weight of the oil. for instance,10w-30, this is saying that this oil will act as a 10 weight in the Winter and a 30 weight in the summer. they don't put an "S " after the 30, but it's understood... most people think that the "W" stands for weight, which the numbers do refer to the weight, but it actually stands for "Winter", they don't bother about putting a "S" after 30 though...just thought you should know this so you don't look like a dumb @ss...:bandit:

Just a note : 5w-30 is recomended for overhead cam motors b/c when the motor is cold and you start it the oil is more free flowing and can get to the valve train quicker. Mainly for the cam though.

Re: Oil type question?
General rule of thumb. The higher the number the thicker the oil. ie 40w is thicker than 30w.
