Question Having transmission problems.

I am having some transmissions problems. My van will not shift out of first gear. My buddy the same day starting having tranny problems with his durango. It was the same problem I am having with the van, it wouldnt go into second gear. Well his buddy told him to check the speed sensor on the tranny and he replaced it now the durango runs perfect. My question is, is their a speed sensor on the 89 chevy beauville g20 van or no? And if their is would it make the tranny not want to shift out of first gear? I would really like to get this van running their is only 47,000 miles on the original engine. Any and all help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Having transmission problems.

The 89 may have speed sensor but it does not affect transmission.
Yours is no electronic.

Things to check first fluid level and condition.
Then TV cabel if it has one and vacuum hose and modjulator valve.

If all that is good remove and check governor gear and valve/plunger inside gear.
Post back what you find and have checked.

First question is what does this govenergear look like and where is it located? Does auto zone sell these parts or do I need to order them through a dealership?

Thank you all for helping out so fast. God bless.

Have you checked fluid level and condition and filter and TV cable and modulator valve and for vacuum to it?

What transmission does it have in it?
700R4 or 350 or 400
Depending on what transmission?
The governor will be on left rear side of transmission.
The plastic gear will be on the end of governor.
Check for plastic teeth striped off or gear broke.
Governor valve will be in governor.
It should slide back and forth about a 1/4 in.
AZ may have parts or a transmission shop or dealer.
But before throwing parts at it check it out.
