Car does not start well

1995 Accord Lx sedan
For about a week now I have had trouble starting the car.
If I press in the clutch and turn the key it sometimes will not start. It only makes a clicking sound. I guess that would be the starter.
If I press the clutch in two times then it will start. A few times during this week it does start it will simply die out while the engine is turning. It never did this before.
Could it be the gas filter? I haven`t changed it in 10 months and I would say that I have driven the car 9,000 miles since its last change.
What else could it be?

I had a 89 accord and I kad the same problem and I guess it had some thing to do with the clutch so I had to replace it. But that is just my opinion and I also have a 95 prelude wich needs a new clutch so if I don't put the clutch al the way down the car won't turn on.

if the starter just clicks rather than turning the motor, i would say that your battery is really close to dead, or your motor is really close to dead. start there and see what you get.

I had a similar problem a few months ago, when I would crank it over, it would just click and whine. I replaced the starter and it did the same thing. After having several people help me isolate this problem, we found that the flywheel had broken, the outer ring with the teeth had separated from the disc, so the teeth on the starter were not catching the teeth on the flywheel.. I'm not saying this is your problem but it is definately something I would look at.. Good luck..

Thanks for the help.
My battery is maintenance free and the green light is still glowing brightly.
I changed my entire clutch about four months ago. So contact with the flywheel is fine
So Saturday I had the Fuel Filter changed and I have not had problems starting my car. I had not changed the fuel filter in about a year.
Guess it was really dirty.
I would guess that when I turn the key the fuel pump sends gasoline to the filter and then from the filter to the injectionsystem. Probably when the gas was sent from the tank to the filter the filter was too dirty to send enough gas to the injection system.
I always have the habit of turning the key all the way and turning on the car and not waiting for the check engine to turn off.
I`ll let you guys informed if it happens again.

It was the starter !!!

It would not start at all last weekend.
The mechanic told me to tap the starter with a hammer to loosen something that was sticking. That did the job and I was able to get the car to the shop. I had the starter replaced. No more problems.

I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!

i had the same EXACT problem on my 96 accord EX 5spd. just recently. It wasnt the starter, or filter or anything because my car has a ,"lifetime fuel filter", so Honda tells me anyway.. But anyways, the problem was it needed new Contacts! The Starter needed new contacts. That was it.. now it starts up everytime without a problem. But Since you got a new starter that should take care of the problem

I'm having a similar probelm. When I go to start my car (94' Accord Ex) in the morning it only makes a single 'click' noise. If I push start it it will run fine all day, start and stop. Then again the next a.m. won't start.

My battery was old so I get a new battery and guess what... the next morning it won't start. HOWEVER, it has started fine for the passed 2 days since then. ???? I'm think it may be my starter...anyone ver changed one? Where is it located and is there anyting else in the way?

Thanks in advance,
CBaron
