2000 Z71 wont stay running

i have a 2000 silverado Z71 with 12k miles on it. the other day i had drove it all morning. then when i started it to go home it died as soon as i put it in drive. it done it like 4 times and hasnt done it again. it runs fine. just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

I haven't had this happen to my 2000, but a good friend of mine has a 2002, and his did. It would just shut off for no reason. He took it to the dealership, and apparently they musy have known about a pre-existing problem, because they knew exactly what to fix. If I think to ask him this week, I'll post on here what the cause was.

I had a similar problem with my 2000 silverado 2wd. Mine wouldnt start sometimes at all. It never died when i put it in gear just when i would start it. I took it to the dealer and they told me there is a valve in the engine that breaks or something and it causes the engine to flood when you turn the key. So if you are still under warranty get it fixed otherwise it is 80 bucks.

My Suburban shares plenty with the Silverado... I would suspect the ignition switch or Theftlok computer. That is a serious problem, so I would take advantage of the factory warranty and take it in for service.

That valve was probably the fuel pressure regulator on the left side of the engine. They rupture alot causing the engine to flood out.

i would think to check all of the vacume hoses. i dont think that it would be the ign. switch cuz if its turing over, theres no way. also you could check all of the conn. to the computer.

I have a 99' silverado (4.8 liter) and it takes forever to get it started. i'm just wondering if anyone knows what the problem could be.i have had the fuel pump checked and isn't it. I don't know if it might be the throttle position cencer or not. but if anyone knows please reply........... thank you..

i am a gm tech and we have seen just as someone stated, the fuel pressure regulators diaphram ruptures and causes fuel to leak into the vacumm line which will cause a lot of drivability concerns including stalling, no start, and missfire. You should remove the vacuum line to the regulator and smell it! If there is any sign of gass the regulator's diaphram has ruptured. really an easy fix and a good money maker at the shop due to the quick diagnosis and the frequency of the problem!

I agree my 99 GMC' fuel pressure was bad. It cost $72 at the dealer. They wanted $200 for part and labor. I put it in, in about 5 minutes. After i replaced it the truck ran like new.
