You think it's bad ? Did you hear a loud snap sound when you were driving ? Did you pull the cover off the cam gear and see if the belt is broken ? Are you getting spark ? The belt isn't that hard to change, but if the belt broke theres a chance that it could have took out some valves when it broke. Honda motors are interference motors and when the timing belt breaks theres a chance that the valves and the pistons may meet. If that happened than your timing belt just got expensive. If you got lucky and the belt broke and didn't bend any valves than it's not that hard of a job to do. I would also reccomend for you to change your water pump while your in there. The hardest part of the job really is breaking the crank pulley bolt loose. Go and get yourself a Helms or chiltons repair book to help you. You'll want to set the #1 piston to top dead center a(TDC) and line up the cam gear, slide the new belt on. Not that hard. I can do it in like a hour and a half.

you also forgot about having to remove the drivers side engine mount. you cant get the timing belt on without removing it, or atleast i could not.

HAHAHA, sorry but i love this part. IF your timing belt broke, steps are
1) Remove Engine
2) Make it a new big paper weight
3) Find new Engine
I have never seen a honda engine survive breaking a timing belt. It is nice to replace the timing belt through and all the seals while you are at it, like the front main seal and camshaft seal since you are removing those parts anyways. Like Jmunk said, check spark, fuel delviery, and see if there are any codes being thrown by the computer. What happens when you try and start the car? Any sounds, lights, pieces clunking around?

No, I have seen dozens of D-series motors that the timing belt has borke on and only 2 have had damage to the valves. Most of the time the people luck out and nothing meets.

We had an s200 come into work that had a bad timing and broke after running it real hard. Imagine the damage when the car was revving at 8 grand and the timing belt broke?

Nope, it was a pain in the ass that yelled warrenty. We got paid for only half the labor to rebuild the head and pistons. The car only had like 7500 miles on it.

I thought for sure the s2000 would use a timing chain instead of a belt... oh well, maybe that's just the Si and RSX?

Hmm...well when a timing belt goes bad it strecthes and skips a tooth and breaks. I doubt that the timing belt is causing your car not to start if it's not BROKEN. How did you come to the conclusion that it's the timing belt giving you the problem ? I have heard of a case or two where the belt has jumped a tooth, but it would still run, just like crap. Before you go changing the timing belt i would make sure thats why it's not starting, but if the belt isn't broken than you have other problems. As far as me telling you how to change it i reccomend you get Helms or a Chiltons book and read up, i'll explain anything if you need it but get a book first. Oh if you want real help than i can type all night.

You should test the coil...is that turns out okay than the ignitor could be bad. Did you go to start it one day and it didn't start or did it die while driving it ?

That's not your timing belt. I'd get a second opinion on that. True, a broken timing belt would not allow your car to start, but spark would be the least of your problems. Trust me, that's not it. First off, check your main relay. Also, check your coil inside the dizzy, measure the resistance between the terminals to see if it's good. Also, you may want to check and see if your ECU is throwing any codes. And, how do you know it's not getting any spark? may want to double check that... There's a million things that could cause your car not to start, but in your case, I'll eat my hat if it's the T-belt.

hey

well actually it was a while back, my while driving my car just started slowing down and died on me, i looked over everything, and the 3 outta 4 of the plugs were filled with oil, so i cleaned it out, got new plugs, replaced my old seals, and tried it, just heard the motor turning over but no start up, thought it was the dizzy, well i got a new one used one and tryed that, nothing same exact shit, so i would assume that the t belt is the problem since the dizzy isnt giving any spark...
