Rear brakes [HOT]

I'm having problems with the rear disk breaks on my 1998 Sonoma this is the RD pair of brake pads in two years. when I change the pads everything seems to be fine till I test drive it. after 2 miles the breaks heat up so bad you can't touch the wheel. but if I get back in the truck and put it in neutral it will coast with out no drag.yes I do the grease on the parts and also wire brush the parts clean I thought about the caliper but both sides at the same time?

Re: Rear brakes [HOT]

VERY common problem. Each time the rear disc brakes are serviced on GM S & T body vehicles: resurface or replace the rotors, and use loaded rear calipers. They come with pads, calipers, hardware and the mounting bracket. The caliper is aluminum with a phenolic piston, great set up, for the life of the brake pads, then it's time to replace it all. Check the park brake adjustment also: Back off the adjuster cable then remove the rotor, small adjuster toward the top of the backing plate, adjust until park shoes have slight drag on drum, then readjust park cable. Lube all slides and reassemble, problem solved!
