Pretty easy if you can get the axel nut to break loose. It's pretty much straight forward.

Got access to air tools? You could change the axle in about 15 min. Just breka the axle nut loss, remove the cotter pin on the lower ball joint and remove the nut. Then just pop the axle out of the trans. witrh a breaker bar. Just rember to dent the axle nut when you put it back on again.

It's not hard at all, I replied to this last night but it never showed up so I'll write it again. You don't need any airtools, we have a huge impact gun and it wouldn't budge the nut holding on the lower suspension arm. YOu just need a long ratchet or wrench with a pipe on the end of it. You need to take off the nut in the center of the disc. THen you need to dissconnect the lower suspension arm and also disconnect the steering rod(it'll be towards the back of the spindle i.e. right side of spindle if on driver's side left side of spindle if on passenger side. Once you get those two things disconnected you want to beat the lower suspension arm with like a rubber hammer to get it seperated from the spindle, it may help if you jack the spindle up with a floor jack before you do that. Then you just get the axle out of the spindle and swing the whole disc/spindle unit towards the back of the car, then you can pull the axle out of the tranny and slide the new one in. don't forget to take the pins out of the nuts on the lower ball joint and steering rod(like turbcivic said you don't have to disconnect the steering rod but it makes it alot easier).Which side is the axle on?

Ok, when you jack the car up look at that axle and see if it has a yellow stripe on it. If it does then you have a different axle than some of the other civic's came with, just mention the yellow stripe when you order a new axle. I think it's like 23 splines on the part that goes in the hub....whereas the DX's and Si's had a couple more splines.

i dunno whats wrong with your impact gun but thats what did the job for meim asuming your talking about the spindle nut, i tried using a breaker bar with 2" steel pipe over that and a 2 foot 1/2" thick screwdriver to hold the hub still, lets just say it bent the screwdriver into a L, it also messed up the thread on the hub bolts, the impact gun worked for me, oh yea, its not hard when you get that thing off, and you can use a two jaw puller to get the lower arm off

Yeah that same impact gun two days earlier broke a stud off a disc....It must have been a crack in the air hose or something... it was the nut on the lower suspension arm that I couldn't get off, it was a little rusty, never been touched before.
