Anything i can do with a 98 Impreza L ?

I just got a 98 Impreza from my grandma it’s a five speed and she's sick of shifting so she gave it to me. I was wondering what I could do performance wise or cosmetically with it. All I know is that it’s a 98 Impreza L Sedan. I have about 5,000 dollars to use on it any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking of buying an older L coupe for Rallycross. If you're willing to drop some money into it all at once drop in a slightly used USDM EJ20T out of a wrecked WRX or a slightly used japanese spec EJ20TT twin turbo from a Legacy B4 should set you back about $1500. Not much you can do with a 1.8 except swap it out

I disagree wholeheartedly...
1.8 Liter SCCA Pro Rally car...

stock engine
modified exhaust, suspension, etc... specs here:
http://www.subiegal.com/SGRacing/BuildRC.htm

i know it's a tick slow.. but it can still be modified...
on the flip side... you could do that engine swap
and make it look like this:

the car pictured above was a 1995 Impreza L 1.8 - now it's got a 2.0L Turbo engine and RS body kit...

is your 98 a 1.8 or a 2.2... the 2.2 is actually not too far cry from a 2.5L....

cheers

Heya. Im new to this site..and i have questions on similar topic. I have a 98 impreza rs .... and am saving for an engine swap, as opposed to starting from NA scratch, and going all motor (for time being, that owuld be). This descion is made mostly due to the expense of building a fast NA car Vs. Turbo. So anyway, the engine of choice is the twin turbo subaru engine from the legacy. I believe one of you said (above) that this could be had for 1500? Where? and is this engine 2.0L or 2.2L? Thanks, all advice/comments welcome. Hope this all makes sense and is easy to understand. Take it easy

ok well he listed the site he recomends for acquiring the engine. they have the turbo list at about 700 + ship and the twin turbo list at 1,200 + ship.

illracer thanks for that link it has shortened the project time on my car signifacantly. i was having a hard time tring to track down the EJ33 engine and they have then for less than i was planing to pay good deal.
