1999 Silverado still missing

Ok so we know there was a defect in the Distributor for the 4.3L and we know the parts only last so long before the moisture distruction begins. However I just replaced the distributor/rotor, wires and plugs and 6 months later... yep multiple misfire. Ok so beside removing the screens from the bottom of the distributor and rewrapping the sweat line from the A/C return (the real cause of the condensation problem), is there any real fix to this delema? I know alot of chat went into misfire problems, but I have verified this issue and there are even bulletins posted in some of the replacement parts when repairing/replacing these items.

My fix would be a stainless steel contact on the distributor instead of aluminum, the brass rotor should be fine it doesn't burn/wear untill there is a corrosion problem.

You could try applying a small bead of RTV sealant to the cap where it contacts the distributor, and fill the boots with dielectric grease just to be safe. I do a lot of offroading in my truck, and I have had my distributor underwater and the electrical parts stayed dry. The vents on mine are plugged solid, you may want to try pluging them on yours, or tapping a very small hole in one vent and installing a barbed fitting and running a hose somewhere dry (air box?).

Thumbs up Re: 1999 Silverado still missing

Thanks J
that was an idea I was throwing around but I wasn't sure of the after effect it might cause. I still wonder why there are vents on a distributor in the first place.
I have ordered Accell parts to replace the Sorensen, as Accell uses brass over alluminum, (better electron flow & slower corrosion).
As for a dry/air box? I'll try the rtv and just plu the bottom vent holes

Thanks

Re: 1999 Silverado still missing

Read this:

I have not had that problem on my truck in 2 years, but you should be aware that it is a possibility. Mine plugged naturally from the tiney particles that come off the contacts on each spark, like very fine slag from welding. Mine held water (left the hood open while replacing distributor cap, rotor, wires while i ran inside during a rain storm), so i figured it would keep water out. Perhaps they still allow air through?
