The last few weeks I've been having some weird issues with the car idling rough at Stops and in park. On occasion the Check Engine light would come on for a few days and then go off. Until today I've never been able to get my car with the light on and my mechanic in the same place at the same time...
Of course my problem got a lot worse today which is why the above worked out. My car has decided to start staling out when breaking now so it was a little easier to accomplish the above. They looked at it and told me the EGR valve was bad which from what I can tell on other posts in this forum and around the net is probably pretty acurate. The down side of this is with the holiday season fast approaching and the work load he already had on the lot they will not be able to work on my car until early next year!
So I'm thinking about trying this one on my own. I will say the Hayes manual I have for this car is totally useless in this situation. The book shows the EGR valve being between the Trany Dip Stick and the engine more or less which its not. I did find it with the help of this forum behind the engine towards the drivers side though. Sits underneath a throttle cable the goes over to the 'Cruise Control' module. I have also tracked it down at one of the Auto Parts stores websites. Same thing.
My question is does anyone have any tips on how to get the old one out and the new one in if I do this? There doesn't seem to be a lot of room back there to work with and I don't have the smallest of hands. Any help or words of encouragement would be appriciated.
Thanks.
