how to loosen harmonic balancer bolt ? (crankshaft pulley)
90 cherokee laredo
i tried to loosen the bolt on crankshaft pulley .. it just spun the pulley, so I spun it back to where I thought it originally was ... did I screw anything up by it turning ? (with engine off of course) ... how is that threaded?? standard or reverse I also heard a noise in the crankshaft as if it was going to turn the engine over.. glad I disconnected the battery how do you get that bolt out? i got a removal kit & a new pulley, the one in there has decayed rubber sticking out around the edges .. Im putting a new water pump in so I need to get this done while im in there .. help! how much do shops usually charge to do this? in case I give up on it |

Re: how to loosen harmonic balancer bolt ? (crankshaft pulley)
There are several ways to put some friction on the harmonic balancer to keep it from turning, including pry bars, getting a friend to hold it, using the serpentine belt or any combination of those. Good luck with it, with some perseverence (and caution if using the prybar) it'll come off.

well, we got it changed today. One person holding the belt then other person used an impact & bolt came right off. was a pretty easy install.
