For the past year, the CD changer ( 6 CD changer located in console) works for a few months and then doesnt for some time. When not working, it does change CD's but apparently isnt reading them. Thought it could be a dirty laser issue so I used some compressed air to blow out dust - no change. I get a "TR" message on Radio display when CD cant be read and then it changes to next CD. Maybe is itsnt acknowledging a CD is there at all - dont know. Is there an inexpensive fix to this ? I really cant afford to put a new sound system in this old gas guzzler ('97 AWD 5.0 L XLT). Thanks ! John

Re: CD Changer tempermental 97 XLT
Are you using store bought cd's or are you using burned copies of WMA or MP3's? I find that storing burned cd's in the car/truck is harsh on them, and the silver coating slowly breaks down causing the cd no to be recognized in the player.
Hope this helps...
