1995 Rodeo Leaking Radiator Fluid. Please Help

I have a 1995 Rodeo with a 3.2L V6 that seems to be leaking fluid somewhere near the rear of the engine near the passengers side. I saw a puff of steam come up from the manifold but couldn't determine exactly where the leak is coming from. I just replaced the water pump so that would eliminate that. Both upper and lower radiator hoses were also replaced. After driving I hear a gurgling sound and air is pumping into my reserve overflow once the engine is shut off. Also starts to get hot when at idle but cools when driving. I checked the passenger floor board for water just incase the heater core was leaking. It was bone dry. Anybody have any idea what the problem could be? By the process of elimination I don't think there could be much else. This is my everyday driver so I need to fix ASAP. Someone, please help Thanks

Some others will find a couple of good posts on this. It is most likely some h20 fittings under the intake manifold.

depending on exactly where the leak is back there, i would check in order:
1. the heater hoses at the firewall in the engine compartment. the hoses themselves can be leaking, or the inlet/outlet plastic fittings may have a crack. feel under there for coolantfluid moisture, and/or use a mirror; it's tight back there. you will need to replace the heater core if it's those plastic inletoutlet pipes, or install a bypass hose to cut the heatercore out of the coolant loop.

2. if it's leaking more from the center rear, it's the hose/pipe fitting gaskets under the intake manifold structure. the leak pools down there and weeps out of a onpurpose weep hole and drips down at the trans/engine seam area. use a light and contort yourself looking under the intake stuff to see a green pool. if this is it, you will need to take all that intake stuff off to get to the pipes and replace the O-rings.

There is a coolant crossover pipe at the rear of the V6, joining the cylinder heads. It is also a possible contender for a leak.

The seals on mine blew. Had it fixed by a dealer because I didn't have the time to even find the leak.

I hope that your problem is simpler, but I thought I would add this as a 'possible'.

my 95 passport has the exact same symptoms, what did you finally do to fix yours?

Smarks....this is such an old thread, the OP probably hasn't visited in a long time.

However, I own the truck with the same engine, what are your exact issues? Where's it leaking from - your best guess, how many miles, have you replaced any cooling system parts, etc.

the water pump was replaced about 2 yers ago and the truck has about 160 miles on it.
if i fill the radiatot all the way to the top i can get about 3 miles before my truck overheats, then i have 2 wait and fill it all the way up again. with the hood open there are no visible leaks the only place that i can see water coming out is under the truck as if it is coming out of the transmission right where it conects. i can also hear like a boiling sound and a sound almost like air escaping coming from under the intake manifold also some steam comes up, but i still cant find any leaks no mater where i look, which i find weird for the amount of water that i see coming from under my truck. when the ingine is off but still real hot i can squeeze the radiator hose to push water through and the boiling sound and and air leak sounds get louder.

Well...there are several hoses under the intake manifold, you could have a few that are leaking big time.

I'd take it in and have a mechanic pressure test it.

I would NOT be driving it til you get it resolved...this is an all aluminum engine, you will crack the block and warp the heads quickly by allowing it to overheat.

Have to wonder if your block isn't cracked by the amount of water/antifreeze you're going through.

I have 189k miles and just recently had to replace a few hoses under the intake.

However, mine underwent a full coolant system refresher in the last 2yrs - i.e. new radiator, all new visible hoses - there are a ton, thermostat, new ATF coolant hoses.

When you say it's leaking where the tranny connects...are you saying the transmission itself or the tranny cooler line hoses?

Not really sure I cant see where any of the leaks are coming from, it just rolls down around the transmission. I am gonna pull off the intake today to see what I can see but I probably wont get 2 much acomplished cause its kinda chilly, but I will let you know what it looks like when I can.

Thanks for the info earlier. i got every thing taken off and it is definatly the larger o-ring under the manifold i havent checked the small pipe yet but about to. will probably replace that ring also. All hoses look fine though, anything else i should do while i am down this far. Other things I noticed, 1: everything inside of my intake is totally black, should i clean all of the crud from inside it, if so what should I clean it with. 2: one of my spark plug wires came out looking like there was oil on the tip, I paid to have this fixed along time ago but must have comeback, do you think it is just the seal, so that i can do it my self. 3: one of my fuel injectors was totally covered in crud, what should I clean that with and what might have causesd this. Any info would be helpful, sorry for all the problems but i am not a mechanic, but I am getting alot better this is my second one I had a 91 rodeo before this 95 passport and enjoy working on both.

Ramblin is right, there are many connections that can fail on the 3.2.

how do i get 2 those spots to check it, i would like to do it while i have most of the engine apart.
